WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOUR VENEERS COME OFF?

Teeth veneers are made to last but just like anything, accidents happen and your veneers sometimes may break or even come off. Unbinding is a situation where veneers peel off from teeth without necessarily breaking off.

It is important to understand that unbinding or breaking of veneers is not an urgent or emergency situation. You may panic at first when your veneers come off however, you do not need to handle the situation of veneers coming off with an emergency unless you feel extreme sensitivity as layers of your enamel may have been removed during the application.

When one of your veneers comes off, carefully determine whether it is broken or chipped. Sometime veneers may come off without breakage and can be bonded together by a dentist without having to make a new veneer. Nonetheless, if your veneer breaks into pieces, carefully collect your pieces and preserve them in a soft cloth to take them to your dentist. The dentist needs to see the veneer to understand what could have caused the breakage. The dentist can advise you on better ways to avoid breaking your veneer in the future.

It is essential to let your dentists know that your veneers have come off. This may help them arrange for some immediate appointment for you to have new veneers placed on your teeth. For the veneers that require scrapping of the enamel, you should schedule an appointment with your dentists soonest possible to have new veneers placed on your teeth. If you are not able to access your dentist at that moment, you can look for some temporal stick-on veneers from any dentistry clinic or chemists and place them to sustain you until you visit your dentist. Most temporal veneers are stick-on, and they can be removed when you get to your dentists without having to unbind them.

For veneers such as Lumineer TM veneers, the enamel in most cases is not scrapped not unless it is essential. In such instances, when the veneers come off, you can clean your teeth and go back to your dentists at your own convenient time to have new veneers made for you.

The cement used in binding veneers on the teeth is not meant for permanent uses. Many people wish to change the veneers after some time and the reason a permanent binding cement cannot be used for binding veneers. The use of such a cement that does not offer permanent binding is the reason as to why under much pressure your veneers can drop off.
