  From time to time, we all experience sore gums. This mostly occurs when we’re flossing or brushing our teeth a bit too firmly. In some cases, the gums may also start bleeding. While most often this is nothing serious and we need to just be a bit more gentle, sometimes this is a more serious condition.  It is important to know the underlying cause of sore gums to take the necessary actions. This is especially true as sore gums can be an indicator of underlying gum disease.  What Are the Causes of Sore Gums? Some things that cause sore gums include: Improper flossing techniques Brushing your teeth too harshly Gum infections Gum disease (Periodontitis) Hormone imbalance Lack of enough Vitamin K in the body If you are experiencing sore gums, it’s a good idea to make a dentist appointment as soon as you can. Your dentist will help you determine whether you have gum disease. Some of the stages of gum disease that may cause sore gums to include: Gingivitis - This is a mild and early stage
